When reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, injectable neuromodulators are a popular choice as they are generally safe and minimally invasive. These treatments involve a series of injections to temporarily paralyze the muscles in your face. This allows the wrinkles in your skin to relax and diminish or disappear entirely. It also weakens those muscles so overtime it takes a longer time for these wrinkles to return. Results typically last between 3-4 months. 

Xeomin and Botox are both onabotulinumtoxinA which is a chemical that when injected into muscle will temporarily paralyze its movement to help minimize, reduce, prevent and treat wrinkles.  Specifically, these toxins are used to treat wrinkles that are caused by movement and repetitive facial expressions. Your practitioner will begin by cleaning and sanitizing your skin. Next she will map your facial anatomy and physiology of your muscles and mark where your injections will be placed. Next the injections will be administered with the use of tiny needles to minimize discomfort and bleeding.

The entire process only takes a few minutes. Once we are done, there might be some redness and or swelling near the injection sites, but you can typically resume your normal activities immediately and this redness/swelling typically resolves within 1-2 hours. Avoid pressure to the face and head for 4-6 hours, this means no hats or tight headwear, touching, rubbing or massaging the area, washing your face or massages. For 12 hours avoid anything that causes flushing or increased circulation to the face including exercise, hair washing and blow drying, hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, etc. Avoid other facial treatments such as lasers, Peels, Microdermabrasion, microneedling, etc. for 7 days. 

While Botox and Xeomin are fast-acting treatments, it takes time for the lines on your face to diminish fully. You'll notice some results immediately, with full results after two weeks. Wait at least 14 days after your injections to start to evaluate the success of the treatment. You are encouraged to come in for an assessment and touch up between day 14 and 21 after your treatment.

Most patients experience minimal discomfort during and following the procedure, especially since Botox needles are tiny and procedure is so quick. You shouldn't notice any significant pain after the treatment, but your face may feel tender near the injection sight. Some people may notice increased headaches or forehead tightness for the first two weeks after treatment.

Botox and Xeomin results last 3-4 months but with routine treatments you may notice results lasting longer as the muscles become slightly weaker with continued treatments. 

You may notice slight changes in your muscle movement within 48 hours of treatment but full results will take up to 14 days.
